Who we are

MicroInterns Ltd (company number SC832651), registered at ABVenture Zone, MacRobert Building, Aberdeen AB24 3FX, is the data controller for personal data collected through this website. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under number ZC051820. Contact us about your data at privacy@microinterns.co.uk.

This policy covers microinterns.co.uk. Our platform at microinterns.app, where students and startups hold accounts, has its own policy covering the same company.

What we collect and why

We collect the information you give us directly: your name, email address, university and course details when you apply for a project, and your name, company and project details when you post one. We use it to match students with projects, respond to enquiries, and run the service. Our lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in operating a matching service (Article 6(1)(f)).

If you download our pricing document, we collect your email address and your company name if you choose to give it. We use them to answer you and to see which companies are interested in working with us, on the basis of our legitimate interest in following up a request for our prices (Article 6(1)(f)). We send you nothing else unless you tick the box asking us to, and you can tell us to stop at any time.

Who we share it with

Student applications are shared with the startup whose project you applied to, and nothing more. We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing.

The service providers who process data on our behalf are Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database and authentication) and our transactional email provider, each under a data processing agreement. We aim to keep personal data hosted in the UK or EU.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries, pricing download requests and applications while we are working on them and while any resulting placement is running. Ask us to delete your data and we will do so promptly, apart from limited records we are required to keep by law.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or restrict processing, and ask for your data in a portable format. Email privacy@microinterns.co.uk and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
